eBay fee calculator

Every fee eBay charges on one sale, computed from its published rate cards and traced to the source row it came from. Free, no login.

Your product

A category and a price are enough to start. Add your unit cost and the answer becomes profit rather than fees.

Marketplace

eBay US's own rate card. Prices are read in USD and nothing is converted between marketplaces.

eBay US's own subscription tiers. Your tier chooses which of the two published rate schedules applies, so it changes both the rates and which categories have one. The subscription itself is charged per account, not per unit, and is reported under the breakdown.

eBay US's own category names, as it publishes them.

In USD. Nothing is converted.

What the buyer pays for postage. eBay US charges its fee on the total amount of the sale, so this raises the fee. You do not keep it, so it is not counted as revenue.

What the unit costs you. Turns the answer above from fees into profit, and unlocks break-even.

How many you expect to sell a month. Adds a monthly column to the breakdown, and sizes the working capital figure below.

The share of your units that come back. Sizes the returns exposure below, against the profit each returned unit was earning. Needs a monthly volume too. Nothing is assumed about it.

Advertising

Monthly ad spend divided by monthly units. Needs a product COGS.

When eBay US pays you

eBay US publishes a speed per disbursement path rather than one cadence, so every path it publishes is listed, fastest first. The path you are on is the one that governs how much cash you have to float.

Express payout speed bank typically makes funds available within 30 minutes (verified debit card / eligible bank account)
Funds clear in checking account after Funds sent typically another 1-3 business days

A payout speed is how long an initiated disbursement takes to arrive. It is not how often one is initiated: eBay US publishes no payout cadence, and this page does not state one. The working capital figure above is built from these published figures and says which.

Step 2: get your profitability check

You've seen your per-unit fees. Your full profitability depends on the things one unit's price cannot show: how long stock sits, how often it comes back, what you spend on advertising, your cash cycle, and how the rest of your range is priced. Those are the 30-plus factors we track.

This is a waitlist. The profitability check is coming soon. We will not pass your address on.

How eBay US fees are structured

Selling on eBay US costs money in two places on each sale, and one more that is charged whether or not anything sells. Knowing which is which is most of what makes a product's margin predictable.

The final value fee

A percentage charged when an item sells, set per category. It is taken against the total amount of the sale, which eBay US defines as the item price plus handling plus buyer-paid shipping plus sales tax plus other applicable fees - so postage charged to the buyer raises the fee even though you do not keep it. Payment processing is already inside this fee; there is no separate processing charge to add.

The percentage is not one shape across the card. Some categories apply one rate at any price. Some band it, and the banding comes in two shapes that are easy to confuse and expensive to get wrong. In one, the rate for the band the sale lands in applies to the whole sale. In the other, each band's rate applies only to the slice of the sale inside that band, the way income tax brackets work. On a higher-priced item the two readings can differ by several times over, so this calculator applies whichever shape the category publishes rather than assuming one. The full schedule below says which categories do which.

The per order fee

A fixed amount charged once per order, on top of the final value fee. eBay US publishes two amounts and decides between them on the order total in dollars, not on how many items the order contains. A small number of category and price combinations are published with this fee not charged at all; where the breakdown above resolves one of those, it shows no per order line rather than a line reading zero, because a fee of nothing and a fee that is not charged are different claims.

The eBay Store subscription

Charged monthly against the account rather than against any sale, and it does two things to the figures above. It is reported under the breakdown as an account-level cost rather than divided into one unit, because dividing it would mean guessing how many units you sell. And it selects which of two final value fee schedules applies to you: the schedules do not carry the same rates, and they do not even publish the same categories - 59 categories appear across the two, and four of them appear on both at different rates. That is why the category list above changes when you change the subscription.

What this page does not compute

Insertion fees, optional listing upgrades and vehicle listing fees are charged for listing rather than for selling, so none of them follows from one unit's sale price. Promoted Listings is seller-configured, and the ad spend field above is where that cost enters the figures. The international fee and the Top Rated Plus discount each depend on an input this page does not collect yet. Each is named rather than silently left out, and none of them is estimated.

Frequently asked questions

How much does eBay US charge sellers?

It depends on the category, the total amount of the sale and whether you subscribe to an eBay Store. eBay US charges a final value fee on each sale and a per order fee on top of it, and the final value fee rate is set per category. Enter a price and a category above to see both computed from the published rate card.

What is the eBay US final value fee?

The fee eBay US charges when an item sells. It is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, set per category, and it already includes payment processing - there is no separate processing fee to add. The percentage is published per category and this page computes it from the stored rate-card row.

What does eBay US charge the final value fee on?

The total amount of the sale, which eBay US defines as the item price plus handling plus buyer-paid shipping plus sales tax plus other applicable fees. Postage is part of that base, so an item sold with postage charged separately pays a larger fee than the same item sold at the item price alone. The shipping price field above is what puts it in the base, and the breakdown shows the figure the rate was taken against.

Does eBay US charge a separate payment processing fee?

No. eBay US bundles payment processing into the final value fee and charges nothing separately for it. The rate card carries a payment processing row at zero to say so, and this page leaves it out of the breakdown rather than showing it at zero: a fee of nothing and a fee that is not charged are different claims.

What is the eBay US per order fee?

A fixed amount eBay US charges once per order, on top of the final value fee. There are two published amounts and which one applies is decided by the order total in dollars, not by how many items the order contains. A small number of category and price combinations are published with the per order fee not charged at all, and on those the breakdown shows no per order line rather than a zero.

Do eBay US Store subscribers pay lower fees?

eBay US publishes two final value fee schedules and your eBay Store subscription chooses between them. One applies without a Store and on the Starter tier, and the other applies from Basic upwards. The two differ by category rather than by one flat discount, so the only way to see what a subscription changes for a particular product is to compute the same product on both. The store tier selector above does that.

Why does the category list change when I change store tier?

Because the two schedules do not publish the same categories. The schedule that applies without a Store subscription publishes 12 categories, and the schedule from Basic upwards publishes 51. Four categories appear on both at different rates. The dropdown offers the categories the selected schedule publishes a rate for, so every option in it has a figure behind it.

Is the eBay US final value fee a flat percentage?

Not on every category. eBay US publishes three shapes, and the published schedule below says which one each category uses: one rate at every price, one rate per price band applied to the whole sale, and a rate per price portion where each band's rate applies only to the part of the sale inside it. The difference is not small on a high-value item, which is why the shape is read from the rate card rather than assumed.

Is the eBay US Store subscription in the per-unit figure?

No. A Store subscription is charged whether or not any particular unit sells, so dividing it into one unit would mean guessing how many units you sell. It is reported separately under the breakdown as an account-level cost, with the figure eBay US publishes for the tier you selected.

What changes the eBay US fees on a sale?

Four inputs, and the page shows each one's effect rather than recommending any of them. The category sets the final value fee rate. The total amount of the sale sets the figure the rate is taken against and, on a banded category, which band applies. The order total decides which per order amount is charged. The Store subscription selects which of the two rate schedules applies. Change any of them above and every figure recomputes.

How do eBay US fees compare with Amazon fees?

They are charged for different things, so the comparison is between fee structures rather than between two rates. eBay US charges one percentage on the total amount of the sale plus a fixed per order amount, with payment processing included and no fulfilment fee on a listing. Amazon charges a referral fee on the sales price, a fulfilment fee keyed on the packaged size and weight when Amazon ships the unit, and a closing fee on some categories. Each calculator prices one unit on its own marketplace from that marketplace's published card.

Which eBay US fees does this calculator not compute?

The per-sale fees are computed; the rest are named rather than guessed. Insertion fees, optional listing upgrades and vehicle listing fees are charged for listing rather than for selling, so they do not follow from one unit's sale price. Promoted Listings is seller-configured, and the ad spend field above is where that cost enters the figures. The international fee and the Top Rated Plus discount each depend on an input this page does not collect yet.

When does eBay US pay out, and how long is the wait?

eBay US publishes two separate waits and both are read from its own documentation: how long a sale's proceeds take to become available for payout, and how long an initiated payout takes to reach a bank account. The payout section below lists every disbursement path eBay US publishes, fastest first, and the working capital figure is built from the two published waits with the rows it used named beside it. No payout cadence is stated, because a cadence is a schedule you choose rather than a wait.

Are these eBay US rates current?

Every figure is computed from a stored rate-card row with the date it was last checked against eBay US's own published page, and the breakdown states the date it resolved the rates against. Rows are selected against that date, so a card that has ended and one that has not started yet are both excluded. The source count and the last verification date are in the footer.

Single rate: One rate at every price.
Rate by price band: The rate for the band the price falls in applies to the whole price.
Rate per price portion: Each band's rate applies only to the part of the price inside that band, the way income tax bands work.
A dash in the minimum column means the category publishes no minimum final value fee, which is not the same as a minimum of zero. The qualifier after a category is the rate schedule the row belongs to, and your eBay Store subscription chooses which one applies to you. A category listed twice is published on both schedules, and the rates on each row are that schedule's own.
